Getting a handle on substance use and criminal activities is a massive challenge for community-based offenders. KickStart programs deliver the strategies to meet those challenges.
KickStart’s fundamental aim is to create meaningful behavioural change in community-based offenders. During the KickStart Pilot, participants reported significant improvements in their emotional regulation (as measured by the DERS); and reduced criminal thinking (as measured by the PICTS).
Other key indicators of behaviour change in KickStart participants are the frequency of urine test breaches and Correction Order breaches.
KickStart is a suite of highly successful programs developed to produce real impact for individuals in the community with alcohol and/or other drugs issues and offending behaviour.
Designed, developed and piloted by Caraniche - who draw on 25 years’ experience working with offenders - the suite of programs represent a fresh and highly effective community-based take on these significant alcohol and drug programs.
Offering programs for Groups and Individuals in Face to Face and Telehealth settings.
Opportunities to Scale Impact
Kickstart program, which utilises Tacklit Engage and Clinical, provides significant benefits to the team's approach to group treatment. The program offers several new features that streamline the administration and co-ordination side of group treatment, enabling clinicians to spend more time following up with clients and boosting engagement.
The program's ability to set up group sessions is the biggest benefit, as it significantly reduces the time spent on menial tasks such as sending individual reminder texts per session or scheduling individual clients for group sessions. This streamlined approach allows the team to focus on more impactful work, leading to better outcomes.
Tacklit's use of different mediums in Telehealth or face-to-face sessions has increased engagement, and clients always have their activities available to complete, eliminating the need for physical workbooks. The program's spell check and larger text features have also been highly appreciated.
“The members of our team who have Tacklit have effectively learnt the program within a few days of creating an account, which speaks to the user friendly interface. ”

The built-in workbook feature allows clinicians to monitor a client's progress throughout the group, including surveys and assessments visible to the clinician. Having an electronic version of the workbook ensures that clients are completing their exercises throughout the program and allows clinicians to flag clients who require extra assistance.
The creation through the program of the digitised Self Management Plan provides an artefact at the end of the program. Having a digital version makes it faster, simpler to refer to and share with others.
Each participant gets their own personalised management plan that is constructed through the exercises in the program. This is accessible via the secure client portal, and can be edited then signed via eSign before it is submitted.
Secure access to all the program content means each participant can engage via Telehealth and in Group settings with ease. Stats and results are immediately available to the facilitator.
KickStart can help more agencies to provide high-quality and effective support to individuals by using the Tacklit platform. The program's one-to-many group setups make it more cost-effective and efficient to deliver, while also increasing its reach. This opens up exciting possibilities for new facilitation services and models that can help even more people access positive behavioral change support.
With KickStart and Tacklit, agencies can deliver their programs at scale, ensuring that more individuals can access the support they need to make positive changes in their lives. This program is a game-changer for the industry, providing an innovative solution that not only improves outcomes but also reduces costs.
The extension to new facilitation services and models is particularly exciting, as it creates the opportunity to reach even more individuals and help them achieve their goals. The KickStart program is a powerful tool that can transform the way agencies deliver support, improving the lives of countless individuals in the process.
